Happy Valentines Day Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Valentines Day my DH surprised me this morning with these lovely flowers and an "I Owe You" to a dinner and movie of my choice once I'm back on my feet. (plus candy)

I know many of you wonder if am ever going to start posting like I use to and I will. I have shared with some of you gals that a year and half ago I went through Thyroid Cancer so I'm in the midst of a followup treatment.

I've kept up with my Take It Off Tuesday with Janene yet I realize I've been gaining every week but once my metabolism is back up to power it will come off.

By bloodwork Friday shows it's a go for the Radio Active Iodine Treatment Monday and Wednesday will be the Whole Body Scan if all is clear (which I feel it will be) I will be able to go back on med. and regain my strength.

Although I do feel my scan will be clear ....I continue to pray for I know God is my Great Physician.

My spirits are up and I look forward to this hurdle being behind me.

Whatcha Working On Wednesday

We have had alot going on here and I have so much to be thankful for. As you may have heard Kentucky had a terrible ice storm along with 4 inches of snow meaning a total of approx. 12 inches. (that may not sound like much to some of you but a 4 in. snow is rare for us).

I remember last Tuesday so enjoying watching the snow fall and hearing the sleet. Then all of a sudden here comes the freezing rain and about 11:00 p.m. Tues our lights went out and were out for a full week.

Although it was a winter wonderland it was very dangerous.

As you can see from this pic the results of the freezing rain...we had approx. 1 in. of ice on our electric lines.

Trees were just snapping off and causing all kinds of problems.

My FIL had an extra generator that needed some work (so I am sooo thankful my hubby can fix just about anything). Therefore I decided to make the journey with my hubby (much rather be with him than to be home worrying and prehaps distracting him by calling his cell phone every 5 min.) ...so off we went and my were the roads bad.

This is coming up our road and to the left of the road were these electric poles that had snapped off at the top, therefore that awesome crew of men which I have great respect for had to replace all 5 poles.

So hats off to these guys... they came in from other counties and spend countless hours (of which I know they got double and triple pay which they well deserved). And are still out there working, because all electric has not been restored.

Hubby and I just got home from the grocery we needed to restock. Even though we had the generator we had to keep the deep freeze going because we had just had a beef butchered.

Oh we could not run the water heater so it was awesome to get a nice hot shower after a week instead of just sponging off. I have decided I'm not cut out to be Amish....I'm sure my Amish friends were getting a kick out of this (not really)

Oh we still don't have phone service but they say perhaps tomorrow (Thurs.).

Catching Up

My DH and I went out Saturday to one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants and to the movies. We are Clint Eastwood fans..... he is such a great actor. We really enjoyed Gran Torino. I will not go into any details for those who have not watched it. My main complaint was the language...all in all Clint continues to successfully portray a tough guy at his age.

As promised I will try to play catch up the following pictures are of the Early American Thanksgiving at the Low Dutch Meetinghouse. (My Sweethome Gardens is not related to Sweet Home Spun....I named my gardens after the original name of a nearby small town.)

Christmas Break Has Come And Gone

Here is a pic of our two girls Sloan (with the face only a mother could love) and Jessica. It seems like just yesterday that Christmas break began and now Jessica has already been back to school for a week (J term) Spring classes do not start til Jan. 28th. Just thought I would share some of the pictures I took of Jessica and her friends while she was in. (don't tell her I posted all of these pics)

It was so good to hear the sound of girl's giggling...my how I've missed that.

Jessica and her friends Hannah and Rachel had a movie and pizza night....it was sooo good having them over. All three attend different universities and are unable to get together very often.

Jessica and my nephew Sam...(at my mom's on Christmas Eve)I do believe if we had been blessed with a son he would have look like Sam. Don't you think they look a lot alike?

This is Jessica and Pops (my friend Janie's father) he has always called Jessica his little girlfriend and Janie told my husband that as they were traveling over to our house for Christmas he told them he thought as much of Jessica as he did his very own grandchildren. (this made Jessica feel so good)

Now you may be wondering who this gentleman is....I tried to get her to give him a little kiss but she was afraid I would post it on facebook. Actually Jessica's grandfather bought this "dummy" I really don't know why...I guess "just because".

We will miss her not being home....although we do talk several times a day and have Skype so we get to see her almost everyday:)

Whatcha Working on Wednesday (Thursday)

Just thought I would share with you some of the projects I worked on during the first 2 weeks of December. I finally remembered to do some before and after pics. This potato bin became a Christmas gift for a friend to give as a Christmas present.

At one of my craft shows a lady ask if I painted on anything...and I told her as long as it doesn't move I will give it a try. So she brought me her father's gardening hat (she said he had past away several years ago) She said he was a WWII veteran and he was a very patriotic man.

As I was painting this hat I thought about all the time he must have spent in his garden wearing this hat....I honestly hated to paint it.

With her approval this is what we chose..... AFTER

This lady also had a picnic basket that was her mother's and she wanted a winter scene painted on it. (Before)

Another lady wanted a mailbox painted for her father (with hound dogs chasing a rabbit...he raised these type of dogs) this was a nightmare to finish and I do hope she was satisfied with it. (am always afraid someone will not be satisfied with the finished product) With my DH help it was finally completed before Christmas....after several attempts to varnish and seal the mailbox we ended up using an automotive clear coat....it should withstand all types of weather....just hope some kid with a baseball bat doesn't come near it.

The finish mailbox...the gentleman's name and address was on the other side.

Oh I forgot to mention horses and dogs are not something I do and this was the very first time for dogs.

I tried to post this yesterday but for some reason the blogger would not allow me to upload images. Has anyone other than me had this problem.

Time has just flown by!

I hope all my blogging friends have not forgotten me...we have sooo much catching up to do. (there was a pj party, low dutch meeting house Thanksgiving, orders to be completed, a lot of Christmas shopping, substitute teaching, working at the store, and having our dd home for Thanksgiving break and back again for Christmas)It is so hard to believe over a month has past since my last post. I'm sure everyone has been really busy. This holiday season has absolutely flown by it seems as though Thanksgiving was just here.

I'm hoping to catch you up on what has been happening in my neck of the woods. My dh, dd, and I stayed home Christmas day and the day after just relaxing and enjoying each others company. We watched movies and played games. This was the first Christmas in years that we have not rushed around on Christmas Day traveling to this place and that and we sooo enjoyed it. There are many pictures to share so over the next week I will be doing that. Today I'm working at the little general store I've share pictures with you of in the past. So I really must close for now and will be posting more very soon. Please leave a comment so I will know I have not been forgotten.

So much to share

This week has really been a busy one and it is'nt over yet. I was a 3rd grade substitute teacher for several days.

I worked at a small general store...this is a very old store not sure how long it has been around at least 100yrs.

Lunch time can be very...very...hectic. Only one person runs the store and therefore runs cash register, flips burgers, and makes deli sandwiches. Thank goodness there are still patient people in this world. Yesterday at lunch time I was probably waiting on at least 15 people at once (all wanting their on special orders).

After tending to the store all day and making another emergency trip to the Urgent Care Center (which I will explain later). I visited my brand new....................great niece.

This is what happened Wednesday...I became a great aunt. This is my nephew Charles and his lovely wife Emily and their adorable daughter Austyn Elaine

My Mom and her very first great grandchild...can you believe my mom is in her mid seventies.

While all this was happening this week I have suffered from a allergic reaction to an antibiotic that contains sulfate...therefore I have made two trips to the urgent care center suffering from itchy itchy inflamed spots all over my body. Thank goodness for long sleeve shirts and high neck blouses. Oh well I suppose life goes own and it doesn't matter how uncomfortable our bodies can be.

This weekend should be a lot of fun...tonight is Tiff's (Twigs) PJ party at the store.
Saturday and Sunday is the official open house.

Now I must get this busy day started...I need to make a cheeseball for this evening.

Another Very Busy Week

This week has flown by with dr. appointments, teaching a painting class to a local 4H club(18 children total), helping Tiff prepare for her Christmas Open House next weekend from cleaning the store, twiking, painting candy canes, snowmen, etc. (So thankful I have a understanding hubby)

This Saturday will be spent at the store. I am sure everyone is in the same busy...busy...mode. So be safe everyone and enjoy your weekend. As they say "Tis The Season" :0)

A Great Weekend!

Had a wonderful weekend at the craft show...as I mentioned before it was a two day sale.
I was able to see a lot of my customers from past years and friends stopped by for a visit.
My Mom came and spend the days with me...we had a great time together.

Just thought I would share some pics of my booth...I really had a lot packed in there.

I really didn't notice a decline in sales this year. Thank Goodness! It seems like the majority of booths around me were jewelry so that helped me. I have several orders...so I am really excited to get those.

Here I am...haven't a clue what I was looking at....oh well!

Today will be spent taking the remainder of my prim inventory over to my friend Tiff's store Primitive Blessings and the country crafts will go to a general store close to home. This week I will be helping Tiff get ready for her Christmas Open House....believe me there is a lot to be done before next weekend. Have a great week! Whatcha Working On Wednesday

I have a very busy week ahead of me....this weekend is my two day craft sale...Trims n Whims is held the second Saturday and Sunday of November in Shelbyville, Ky at a local elementary school (Wright). There are last minute projects to be completed, pricing the crafts (always dread this), and loading everything up into the vehicles.

Just thought you might enjoy seeing other projects besides my prim paintings. ( if you are interested in any of the patterns I will be happy to look up the designers)

Really enjoyed painting the Light Houses and dreaming of a wonderful vacation on the beach.

I will be going over to my friend Tiffany's (Twigs) house for Ida ( our Amish friend) Birthday lunch with a couple of other gals. We always have so much fun.

Fall Is In The Air or Is It Winter

Hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. This week is suppose to be the peak of our fall season....thought I would share a few pictures from my front porch.

This Monday morning is very chilly...the high will only be in the 40's. It certainly feels as though winter has arrived rather than fall. I ran a few errands this morning, will pick the remainder of the tomatoes off the vines (the first freeze of the season is forecasted for tonight), and the rest of the day will be spent painting.

I will share Wednesday what came marching into my craftroom over the weekend.

Whatcha Working On Wednesday

Just two and half weeks til my first craft show of the season. It is a two day sale at a local elementary school "Trims and Whims" I always look forward to this show. My mom and I get to spend the days together and visit with friends. So today I thought I would share some of the projects that are already completed. The picnic basket is a pattern by Char Sethman http://charsethman.blogspot.com/ just came across her blog this week and she has some wonderful tutorials.

The lap desk is a Donna Atkins pattern.

Not sure whose pattern this is but if anyone is interested I can look it up. I found it in one of the craft magazines.

I am so jealous of the creative designers;0 ...how they can come up with such cute designs is beyond me. A special thank you to all of you...where would I be without you.

I have signed up for an esty account but have not gotten up the courage to get it started...not sure if there is a demand for the type of paintings I do. What do you think? Suggestions anyone?

Today will be spent painting....painting....painting will share with you tomorrow what I accomplish.

More Fall Decorations And A Giveaway

My DH was telling me that when he was a boy they would build this huge corn shock in their front yard...which gave me a great idea although he probably wished he had never told me about it. So guess what! I have a huge corn shock in my front yard. DH went over to my brothers corn field and got a truck load of corn stalks. He built this frame like a teepee and started building.

This is the back of it and it stands approx. 8 ft. tall.

This is the front of it. He built it a round the Charlie Brown Pumpkin. I just love it. Thanks Sweetie!

Fall Decorating

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. DH and I painted the Living and Dining Room ceilings... this morning I finished putting the rooms back in order. So glad to have that completed....it feels so good when something like that is accomplished. Also I'm going to share some of our fall decorations. Hubby and I went to the pumpkin farm and they had trailers full of pumpkins, cushaw, and gourds.

So we went to work looking over all the trailers to find our pumpkins. DH found this huge pumpkin and just had to have it....I believe he had one thing on his mind that day. Pumpkin pies and cushaw cake.

Charlie Brown would have been proud....it weighed 111# it is huge! Hubby made a huge corn shock and I will share pictures of that later in the week.

I scattered the pumpkins here and there.

Added some to my ladder on the porch.

This pumpkin is a heirloom variety and it makes the best pies. We will enjoy them as decorations now...before the killer freeze ... I will freeze or can them in some way. Today I have pears to harvest so I had better get busy. Enjoy your Monday!

Mid-October Already!

Just cannot believe it has been 3 weeks since my last post. I hope you haven't forgotten me.Time has just been passing by so quickly. When our DD was home for her fall break last weekend. Jessica and I spent Saturday afternoon shopping. As I have said before fall is my favorite season. So I took the camera along with us and snapped a few shots.

We live in a rural area and are so blessed with the wonderful scenery. Also I have read that many of you have to rake your lawn so that the neighbors don't get upset when your leaves blow over into their yards. Out in the country where we live there is no one to complain unless it's the cows in the field.

Isn't God's creation so awesome!

Thought you might enjoy seeing these fall decorations. Isn't this hanging basket just beautiful...there were three in this yard. They were huge baskets.

Just love this type of decorating.

Someone put a fake crow on this sign...it was a great idea. I will be posting some of our fall decoration next week. Enjoy your weekend!

Whatcha Working On Wednesday

I can't believe it has been a week since my last post... where has time gone. Since school has started and my DD has left...I just can't get into a routine. Is this part of being an empty nester? If so I don't like it!

This morning I had errands to run and the rest the afternoon I spent cleaning and organizing my craft room and taking inventory of projects that are ready for upcoming craft sales.

I just can't believe it is Wednesday already...please don't forget me girls...for I am sooo far behind on my blogging. My days have been filled with substitute teaching and it seems I just cannot find the time to blog and get other things accomplished.
The above picture is Sweet Annie that I planted in the spring.

This year will be my first attempt at drying Sweet Annie and Black-eyed Susan.

An Evening Spent With Our Amish Friends

Wednesday Evening was girl's night out and our Amish friend Ida was the hostess. It was such a peaceful and enjoyable evening. (the picture is of the road I live on not the Amish)

I felt as though I had stepped back in time. August and Ida's home is part of the barn you step out of her back door and there is a breeze way separating the stables from the house. It was sooo cool... reminded me of Little House On The Praire.

Oh what a wonderful cook ....she served meatloaf, homemade noodles (resembled angel hair spaghetti), green beans and potatoes seasoned with a wonderful seasoning " Tiger Seasoning", (I added that to my grocery list...anxious to try that myself) homemade rolls, jelly made from some type of berry and red beet juice, Turtle Cake, and cookies with icing on top. Since my sugar level have been high I only took a teeny bite of each. Everything was WONDERFUL. Just think about the time that went into preparing that meal...remember no electricity and running water...I would have been sooo tired.... company would have been the last thing on my mind.

After supper one of my dreams came true...when I visited Lancaster PA...and saw all the Amish in their buggies...it just fascinated me and I had just wondered what that would be like. Well, after the meal Ida hooked up the horse and buggy and we went for a ride.The cars that past us where probably wondering if our car broke down and Ida was giving us a ride (lol).

Ida had the horse even gallop...oh you just had to have been there to really know how much fun we had. Ida had an extra bonnet and Mandy and I took turns wearing it. We just laughed and laughed. After my friend Tiff had her turn we headed back to the house.

The house was lite with kerosene lamps...in the kitchen some of Ida's siblings were playing their harmonica's and yodeling...Oh Girls! there are just no words to describe how much I enjoyed just listening to them.

The younger children were sooo well behaved...you wouldn't know they were in the room.
Ida has 15 brothers and sisters...five of which are married and ten are still at home. They are such a special family. Oh...wish there were pictures to share but camera's are not allowed.

Next week we are going to harvest sweet annie at Ida's....that is ...when it drys off after the much needed rain we are suppose to get.

Whatcha Working On Wednesday

Where do I begin....

I started decorating for Fall this past weekend. Although I did not get much accomplished because I was feeling really tired. Monday my Mom and I went to her pre-op consultation and we made several stops while out. Suddenly I began having a pain that went from my lower back around to the front...so I had Mom stop at the urgent care center just to have things check out.

Needless to say I ended up in the ER because I was dehydrated and my sugar level was very high. The muscle craps was caused by my dehydration. I had been having leg cramps 4 or 5 times a night for the last week. I feel better as far as the muscle craps are concern but still very tired.

Today went for a follow-up with my primary care physican he gave me some med. and I will go back in a month.

Tonight is a girl's evening out and we will be going to Ida's (my Amish friend) house for supper...I am sooo excited...this should be a lot of fun and I will share with you tomorrow.

Yellow Tomato Preserves

This is a recipe past down through my DH family...about 15 years ago when Tony's Aunt Elizabeth shared this recipe I really was not sure if it would be worth the time. To my surprise it is very delish.

Yellow Tomato Preserves

3 cups of yellow tomatoes (chopped)
4 cups of sugar
2 tablespoons of lemon juice

Mix the 3 ingredients together in a heavy saucepan.
Cook over medium heat....bring to a boil and cook approx. 35-45 min. This is always the hardest part for me...sometimes it needs to cook a little longer.To check if it is the right consistency spoon 2 tablespoons into a saucer and place in freezer...continue doing so until it looks right for you.

Pour into jars.... your finished .... no processing time.
It taste good on biscuits and toast. If anyone has made this before...please share if there are other ways to incorporate it in other recipes.

KY Deaf Festival

As many of you know my daughter is majoring in an Interpretive Training Program for the Deaf.

When Jessica was 13 she attended church camp and a Deaf Mission just so happened to be there that week and this opened her eyes to a whole new world...becoming an interpreter has become her passion in life.

On Friday night our DD came home from college. Saturday afternoon my mom, DD and I attended the Kentucky Deaf Festival in Louisville. It was really an eye opening experience for me...I realize how my cousin felt all those years at family gatherings when we were all talking to fast for him to keep up with us. Walking into the convention center and the silent communication going on around me was so amazing.

In the picture above Jessica (standing in a pink shirt) is communicating with a professor (the lady sitting and wearing glasses)she had for the past 2 years.

Jessica seemed to be in her comfort zone while there...she saw many of her past classmates, professors, people she has met at Deaf events, and we also saw my cousin (he looked so happy to be among those friends he had not seen for some time). Jessica told me she now feels as though she has been accepted into the Deaf Community so many of the people she has met in the past came up and hugged her. To my understanding...it takes time to be welcomed and trusted.

This was a preformance of Around the World in 80 Days...including audience participation.

I found it very interesting to watch and the picture below allowed those of us not deaf to know what is being said.

Just thought I would share what an interesting day this truly was.

This morning I just completed a batch of Yellow Tomato Preserves.

This afternoon my mom and I are to meet my sister and niece at Starbuck's. We have a lot of things to catch up on.

Whatcha Working On Wednesday

The last couple of days have really been hectic.... yet I continue to thank God for blessing us with the fruit and veggie to harvest.

Last Saturday I froze peaches and there will be peach preserves made today.

These Damson plums were picked Monday and today they will become jam.

My brother shared some of his corn crop with us... my mother and I picked the corn...Tuesday evening I began working on it and woke up at 4:00 this morning, finished cooking and freezing the corn.

My mother-in-law shared these tomatoes with me ( my tomatoes have not ripen yet) and today they will become salsa. I have the water boiling now and soon I will start removing the peel. We use alot of salsa in Black Bean Soup, Chili, Dip, etc. Just love it!

As you can see I have a busy day ahead of me and today is my Mother's Birthday. I hope to read and comment on your post soon for some reason there has not been much time for me to
visit :0(

Yesterday I had a wonderful time with Tiff, Mandy, Hampton (Mandy's little boy)and with new friends Sonya, Ida (a young Amish girl) and her little boy William. We had such a fun and relaxing day.

Sonya made a delicious lunch for us. She served fried chicken, peas, mash potatoes, gravy, biscuits, and white fluff cake.

Ida and I picked plums...going to attempt plum jelly.

I thank God for new and old friends!

Sweethome Garden Tour

Good Monday Morning! Just thought I would share a few pictures of my late summer gardens. I just love hibiscus...there are several varieties in my gardens. Look close and you will see a bee taking pollen.

This is my favorite the sunlight seem to lighten the red...it is a darker shade. The flower is the size of a dessert plate.

My surprise lilies just pop up everywhere.

My DH made a water garden for me... there is just something about the sound of running water that is sooo calming.

An old fashion favorite are Holly Hocks...they remind me of my Grandmother.

I hope you enjoyed the tour.

Today I am having lunch with some friends and we plan on stopping by a wonderful flea market.

My Does Time Fly!

The rest of the week will be spent moving my DD out of state to college.
My DH, Mom, and I will be spending a few days in the Smokey Mtns.
This is my DD at 1 1/2 years old.

She was chosen princess for her kindergarden class.

Jessica in Venice, Italy when she was 12 years old.

Jessica on a mission trip to Jamaica.

I am sooo proud of her.

Will post in a few days...there is still packing to be done and we need to leave in a couple of hours.

Happy Birthday to Me! Whatcha Working on Wednesday

Wow! Time really flies....today is my Birthday...My plans for the day is to be pampered at the salon...as you can see from the picture there are green beans to can. Last night by DD and I broke beans while watching the Olympics...this morning will be processing time. As mentioned before I just love this time of year...harvesting all the veggies.

I really have no big plans for the rest of the day (that I know of) just plan on enjoying my Birthday.

Yard Sale Treasures

Here are some of my yard sale treasures. I really didn't know what I was buying but it look old and unique.

After looking at it closer....it is a jar lifter that you use while canning...not sure of the proper name. I had never seen one like this before... it was $1.50
I always look for trash to treasure deals...here are a few things I bought. The wood box was $4 and the door crown, wood platter, small cheese box,the thing with a dowel rod and heart on it looks like a display of some sort were $1.00 each.

The sewing box was $2.00.

This wood bucket was $1.00. I also found a lot of small things to work with....Christmas candles (the battery and electric type) .10 each...will grubby them up, paper cutter, stylus, ironing board that will hang over my craft room door, and a lot of other small treasures.

127 Yard Sale

As you can tell by the SUV that was stopped in front of us....everyone was ready to find treasures.

The weather was perfect lower 80's and low humidity... which is very unusual for this time of year. We saw three barns displaying quilt blocks.

I plan to start an album of the barn displays.....

This year the yard sales I went to and have gone to in the past did not seem to have as many treasures...in the past the route we normally take would be a two day trip...seemed as though a lot of out -of- state ventors did not travel as far away from home due to the gas prices.

In the past vehicles (ours included) would be sooooo packed with treasures they only had leg room...but this year I did not see one vehicle loaded to that capacity.

Today I work at a little general store for a friend so I must wait until tomorrow to show you what treasures I picked up..

The Most Frightening Experience In All Of My Life

As most of you know yesterday my Mom and I went on the 127 Yardsale....all day long I had been watching people cross the road...being careful that know one stepped out in front of me.

When I was just approx. 8 miles from home there was this little boy on his bike that came off this embankment and rode right into the side of the van. I was driving slow...there was a stop sign right in front of me.

I just can't hardly find words to describe this.....I stop the van... looked back ..... jumped out of the van... there he was on the road. He jumped up and looked at me and said "I'm I bleeding and I looked him over and said "no honey your not bleeding" I proceeded to ask him where his mom was and he said she was not home and I ask "where is your house"....he pointed to a white house ... my mom stayed with him while I ran over to the house....not knowing what to expect or who would come out....this man (probably late 20's early 30's) came to the door and I said, "could you come outside and I explained the little boy seem to be okay and that he ran into the car". (how do you break the news that the little boy had been in a wreck)

I'm not sure if it was the little boy's father or not but the little boy was saying I couldn't stop my bike it doesn't have brakes....the man seemed more concerned if the van was hurt and if it was going to cost money....I said that was the last thing we were concerned about that he needed to look over the little boy....so my mom and I proceeded to point out he had a bruise on his head, scrap on his little arm and leg, and that his back looked bruised.

He said to the little boy we'll take care of it...we will go into the house and put a little alcohol on it.(not sure if he was joking with the little boy ) but my mom said OH know!

Needless to say...on the way home all I could think about was the what if's....if just a couple of seconds sooner I would have ran over him...I was so sick....I called my husband, he came home, and said we should have called the police. So we called them and the officer said they did not fill out police report unless there as a significant cost involved...my husband said we are not concerned about the vehicle ...we were wanting to make sure everything was handled correctly...he said he would log that it occurred. That just seems so strange to me how the police handles some things...I know the little boy ran into the side of the van and it wasn't my fault ...I just not know...I just think the police should have went to the house and made sure the little boy was ok.

Thank God the little boy was not hurt worse...

This has always been a fear of mine....things can happen sooooo quickly.

Day Trip

Yesterday was a loooooong day...left home at 8:30a.m. and back at 12:30a.m. We saw 3 barns along the Interstate...DD took a picture of one ...not an easy shot when moving 70mph.
The college campus is beautiful...this is the dorm my daughter will be moving in...she is so thankful it will be a private room.
My DD(Jessica on the left) and her friend Haleigh on the right. Haleigh just moved into an apartment last week and was so glad to see us. I am also thankful DD already knows someone at school.

I have already shared with some of you that I homeschooled my DD from 3-12th grade and she has been commuting from home to college for the last 4 years.

Jessica and Haleigh had been attending University of Louisville studying in the Interpreter Training Program then all of a sudden the University dropped the program.

Jessica has made alot of difficult decisions since the Spring and dealt with a heart break when her boyfriend told her he couldn't wait another two years. So through much prayer has decided on this college in Maryville, TN. Jessica's degree will be in Sign Language Interpreting.

I am soooo proud of her.

Oh yes tomorrow is my big yard sale adventure.... will take lots of pictures and share Monday.

World's Longest Yard Sale

The annual 127 yard sale begins today and goes through Sunday. It is the World's Longest Yard Sale...over 600 miles... Mom and I have been going for several years and I am soooooooo looking forward to Saturday. I live appoximately 30 minutes from the 127 HWY and you see license plates from alot of different states. People are pulling U-Hauls, driving recreational vehicles, tying things on top of their cars, and inside of the vehicle is only leg room:O). We only travel approx. 25 miles of it, not stopping at all of them, and it takes a good 8 - 9 hours. I will take pics and show you Monday.

Mom, DD Jessica, and I are making a run to Tenn. today 3 1/2 hr drive so my DD can meet with her adviser and register for classes.

Whatcha Working On Wednesday

Last Saturday I went to three yard sales and all I bought was two graters . . . spend a total of 50 cents. Starting tomorrow is the 127 annual yard sale and if you have never heard of that I will explain it tomorrow.

Thanks for the many suggestions on how I should display the checkerboard and scoop.

Thanks to Carolyn, Lisa, and Linda...I have decided to leave the checkerboard alone and display it on the shelf above my window in the Living Room. (Standing on a chair to get this shot)
The old scoop I am still playing with...it may change with the season thanks to my fellow bloggers for giving me endless possiblities.
The grubby apples in the crock were red apple Christmas ornaments I had bought 12 at the GW for 50 cents so I just dipped them in wax and hand pressed cinnamon and cloves.
As I had mentioned before my friend Tiff draws her doddles and I attempt to bring some life to them and write up her painting patterns. I have completed 4 and have approx. 20 more to go.

Recipe For Yellow Squash Pickles

Back by popular demand!!! Yellow Squash Pickles
4 qt. sliced squash (thinly sliced)
6 med. white onions (thinly sliced)
2 tbsp. garlic powder
1 large green pepper (diced)
1 large red pepper (diced)
1 1/3 cup Pickling salt
Combine the above ingred. in a granite kettle and cover with ice.

Stir every hour for 3 hours....then rinse with cold water...drain.

Combine the following ingred. into a granite kettle
5 cups white sugar
3 cups white vinegar
1 1/2 tbsp. tumic
1/2 tbsp. celery seed
1 tbsp. mustard seed
Bring these ingred. to a rolling boil....add the vegetables.

Bring to a rolling boil. Add 1/4 teaspoon of Alum into the empty hot jars then add the squash mixture and seal.
Process 10 min. in boiling water. This recipe makes approx. 6 pints. If any questions feel free to e-mail.

Squash Pickles and Blackberry Jam

Good Monday Morning! Sunday afternoon was soooo relaxing I finished reading another short-story and took a nap....late evening after it had cooled off...picked blackberries and yellow squash. Today will be spent straightening the house, doing laundry, making blackberry jam and yellow squash pickles. I really enjoy the whole harvesting and canning the summer time fruits and veggies.

Oh I almost forgot...tonight is the last Nashville Star! Gooooooooooooo Melissa Lawson! I so hope she wins.

Taking It Easy

This afternoon I'm just going to take it easy...I made pimento cheese and tuna salad for the coming week. In the crockpot there is fresh green beans, potatoes and carrots with a big ole piece of ham to season it.

I started reading Kansas Brides by Denise Hunter a couple of months ago; short stories about 4 brides...I've read the first one. I will be home alone for the next 4 or 5 hours so my plan is to read this afternoon ...that is if I don't fall asleep.

Quilt Trail

There is a Quilt Trail display across surrounding counties in the area I live...it makes for such a nice ride. The Quilts I am showing you today is within a 15 mile radius of my home.
The quilt squares are attached to new and old barns. In the fields surrounding the barns there are horses and cows grazing.
I took this picture last fall ...see the tobacco hanging in it.
I have seen the squares attached to homes, fences, and mounted on post in the yard.

This is a closer view of the barn I posted yesterday...notice a whole quilt was painted on it. Look at the detail painted in each square. This fall dh and I are planning to take a ride in the surrounding area and I will share those with you too.

Late Afternoon Ride

I believe I'm an official blogger....took a camera with me while out on a motorcycle ride with my dh. Just thought I would share some of the scenery I see on a daily basis.
I guess you would have to be here to truly appreciate the wonderful aroma the cows left behind but I soooo enjoy the rides with my hubby.
This is the road I live on....it's a one lane road. We often see deer and wild turkeys...we have to be careful that a Bambi does not jump out in front of us.
This barn has a beautiful quilt display on it. I will share some photos of barns in our area participating in this display tomorrow.
Hope you enjoyed the ride...we will do it again sometime.

Show and Tell Thursday

Good Thursday Morning! This morning we are having a much needed gentle rain. I'm praying it continues to fall all day.

Today I thought you might enjoy "Show and Tell Thursday".
My dh built our Bi-level porch several years ago and we have sooo enjoyed it. The primitive stand(if anyone knows the correct name please share with me) and wood bucket I found at a flea market. Our cat Bandit someone blessed us with one morning (if you know what I mean) and has been here ever since. He is looking in the door at our little Boston. The chair is one of the six I have been collecting at yard sales over the past several years. The small Ant. Gold milk can is another yard sale find. The watering can on the step ladder holds flags I bought at the Dollar General. I prim them by taking the flag off the dowel rods, coffee staining them, and attached them to twigs. The wood birdcage I found at the GW for $5 the nest inside was included ...just added a clay bird. The bushel basket holding the mother in law tongue plant was another yard sale find.
I just love collecting watering cans...all are yard sale finds have never given over $5 for any of them. The old chair was a freebie.
My dh built our porch swing out of cedar and made it extra long just in case we might have the time to stretch out ...as you can tell our cat Bobbie Sox uses it the most. The patriotic throw was found at the GW (coffee stained it).
My trash to treasure fern stand was made out of wood shutters someone gave me. Look whose looking out the door my little Boston Sloan.

I hope you enjoyed the tour. My plans for the day is to make BBQ with the leftover roast ( in the crockpot of course) for supper, straighten the house, paint, and of course wash a load of clothes.

Wednesday Already! My does time fly!

A couple of weeks ago I worked at my friend Tiffany's store and there was this adorable little dress...and I thought "I might could do that" and what do you know I actually sewed a dress without a pattern, stitched, and coffee stained it. That was a BIG accomplishment for me.
Added another sign to my garden.

Trying to get in the mood to paint for craft sales this fall and winter.So I painted this little coffeepot (Terrye French Design) if anyone is interested it's $25 + shipping. I'm off running errands.

Suggestions Please!

A couple of weeks ago I found this checkerboard at a yard sale for $1.... of course I just had to have. I feel like it is just plain on the sides and it would look better if there was something painted on it...any suggestions.

The scoop was for $3...again any suggestions how I should decorate with it...the handle is gone so there is a whole in the wood so it could either sit or lay....I would so greatly appreciate any help you could contribute.

I will share the before and after photo when finished. Thanks so much!

Monday Morning

As it says on my sign above the sink "Hands to work Heart to God"... It is a rainy Monday morning and I'm so thankful for the rain it is much needed. Today will be spent straightening the house, laundry, and painting some projects. My shelf above the sink and the curtains are new additions to giving my home a primitive style. I must go need to put a roast in the crockpot or there will be no supper. Hope you have a great day!

Friday started off to be a wonderful day... my daughter was off work and going to the eye doctor, my dh was helping a friend, and I help a lady on Tues. and Fri. (her husband suffered a stroke several years ago). I recieved a call from my daughter saying her car would not start and my husband was on his way to check it out.... about a hour later my husband called wanted me to come pick them both up...his motorcycle had broke a shock(thank goodness he saw it before they both hopped on to come home). It was 4:00 when I arrived and we had to come home and get a trailer to haul our daughter's car and the motorcyle home. We arrived home 10:30. I try to look at the whole picture and not let "stuff" like that discourage me. I am thankful they were both safe, made it home safely, my dh is a "jack of all trade" and can fix the car.

This morning when I woke up, went outside, looked across my front yard, saw the wonderful scenery God has blessed us with. I knew everything is going to be alright...because yesterday's misfortune could have always been sooooo much worse.

Chickens

As you may have notice my header has changed....Thanks to Rondell (tomatoe creek prims) for suggesting the prim birdhouse.

Kate (pinetrees on the moors) loves chickens so thought I would share some I have painted. The chickens in the pictures all have found happy homes...will post some later that are waiting to be adopted.(if anyone would like to know who the designers are... I will be happy to look them up)

I have a love for flowers so I thought I would take you on a Garden Tour today.

My hubby made my primitive birdhouse. The primitive clothes line is an idea from my dear friend Tiff and the rest are some of the many flowers from the gardens. This will probably be one of many Garden Tours.

Watcha Workin On Wednesday

Wow...after months of reading all of Leslie's "Watcha Workin On Wednesday" I'm finally able to post my very own. Started early this morning picking Blackberries while it was cool; plan on making Blackberry jam for Jam Cakes (one of our favorite desserts at Christmas time). Went to our local Farmers Market and bought cantalope, white peaches, beets, cabbage, corn on the cob, potatoes, and tomatoes. I plan on working in the Garden and dead head some of the flowers, cut lavender and begin the drying process, and I really need to finish up some painting patterns I am doing of Tiff's Doddles (Primitive Blessings). I have some of my finish project's on Tiff's site under the button FOR SALE. I hope to start putting some of my paintings on etsy soon. (had more pictures to post but uploading the pictures is taking forever hope to add them later today)

Lazy Days of Summer

I don't think these little hummingbirds have heard the phrase "lazy days of summer"....these little guys keep me busy all summer...beginning the first of July to mid-September I have to fill both my feeders up daily. We have spotted as many as 15 hummingbirds at a time...especially when it begins to rain; they really go crazy. When we have company over they are amazed at the number of hummers we have. We so enjoy these little creatures God made for us.

A old suitcase I found at the GW and painted a Terrye French design and an inner door panel (my husband and I savaged from a friends house just before he tore the house down) painted a John Sliney design on it(sorry no before pics) and ...Those are just a couple of items that I've Trash to Treasured.

A New Avenue In Life's Road Map Has Begun

Next month my only child will be leaving home and attending college in Tenn. and Mom's that have successfully adjusted say,"Kathy, you must stay busy in order to survive the empty nest syndrome". Therefore, after discovering the blogging world in early February and reading the post from a lot of the ladies it seems as though they have become my neighbors . I always look forward to Wednesday when Leslie from My Country Home Blog has her "Whatcha Working On Wednesday" challenge plus there are a lot of Blogs I enjoy looking at their Trash to Treasure items and Tutorials.
