Whatcha Working On Wednesday

We have had alot going on here and I have so much to be thankful for. As you may have heard Kentucky had a terrible ice storm along with 4 inches of snow meaning a total of approx. 12 inches. (that may not sound like much to some of you but a 4 in. snow is rare for us).

I remember last Tuesday so enjoying watching the snow fall and hearing the sleet. Then all of a sudden here comes the freezing rain and about 11:00 p.m. Tues our lights went out and were out for a full week.

Although it was a winter wonderland it was very dangerous.

As you can see from this pic the results of the freezing rain...we had approx. 1 in. of ice on our electric lines.

Trees were just snapping off and causing all kinds of problems.

My FIL had an extra generator that needed some work (so I am sooo thankful my hubby can fix just about anything). Therefore I decided to make the journey with my hubby (much rather be with him than to be home worrying and prehaps distracting him by calling his cell phone every 5 min.) ...so off we went and my were the roads bad.

This is coming up our road and to the left of the road were these electric poles that had snapped off at the top, therefore that awesome crew of men which I have great respect for had to replace all 5 poles.

So hats off to these guys... they came in from other counties and spend countless hours (of which I know they got double and triple pay which they well deserved). And are still out there working, because all electric has not been restored.

Hubby and I just got home from the grocery we needed to restock. Even though we had the generator we had to keep the deep freeze going because we had just had a beef butchered.

Oh we could not run the water heater so it was awesome to get a nice hot shower after a week instead of just sponging off. I have decided I'm not cut out to be Amish....I'm sure my Amish friends were getting a kick out of this (not really)

Oh we still don't have phone service but they say perhaps tomorrow (Thurs.).
Have a great night everyone!
Kathy

I am so glad to hear that you have your power back on! One week, heck even one day, is such an inconvenience!
Missed ya!
On a side note...did you send me your weight? If so, I think that I missed it!
The pictures that you showed are amazing! I give those men and women who work on those lines so much credit and respect! They do a fantastic job!!

Wow, Kathy, you did get hit with some storm didn't you...I really feel for you...we've been fortunate here to only have snow, so I really have no reason to complain do I?

I'm so glad you stopped over to see my tweaking...I appreciate it!

Oh kathy I am so sorry you had to go through what so many in NE faced in the weeks before Christmas. It is not fun! My parents yard is still full of broken trees and pieces of the old power lines and it is a mess.So far it has cost them over $1000 in damage costs and come spring the clean up will be significant. And they are but one of thousands of families that were and are still affected around here.

What a blessing that you had a generator to run the deep freeze. I can't even begin to tell you the mess and smell DH cleaned up at my folks because of 8 days with no power and a freezer full of food including 5 turkey.

I know saying I hope all returns to normal soon is silly but I hope as normal as possilble - how's that? Stay safe!!

hugs, Linda

PS my verification word is MESSES - how appropriate!

Our local news has been reporting about how bad Ky was hit. It has to be horrible for those with no heat and power. I am glad you have that generator and are safe.
Spring can't get here soon enough.

Hi Kathy! I know it's bad down there. We had it, but not as bad as that. I have two gardening buddies who live in KY, and one has power now, but the other is still without.
It will take a long time to get things cleaned up and back to normal.
Glad you all are okay!
I have Amish friends who live in Ind., and I don't think I could live that primitive either. haha!

Glad to see you are back online & hope all is well again.

Thank you for your sweet comments, they really, truly mean alot to me.

Hoping you a Wonderful Kentucky Weekend, Pamela

So sorry you had to endure that terriable ice storm. My aprents did also. Their powwer was only off for two days and that was enough. They are in Missouri and still some neoghbors close by still have no power and school is still cancelled all around them. It is a big mess I know. Glad things are getting back to normal for you.
